Virtual gallery refelction

Introduction

This last blog is going to be about looking at everything I have done and learnt while creating the virtual gallery.

1. Explain what skills creating your gallery helps you to demonstrate.

Some of the skills that creating the gallery helped me to obtain were; safety in the work environment, 3D modelling, blueprints, audio planning, skills, video editing, drawing, researching, design.

2.Identify the range of industry sectors to which these skills are applicable and explain why these skills are relevant in these sectors.

These skills are used in lots of different industries start with AAA companies, these skills are relevant in this industry sector because they use them in order to create the games. The same goes for indi developers. When looking at the platforms consoles use all of these skills in order to optimize the experience for the gamer. When looking at  mobile phones the optimization levels are reduced in order to make them more playable. Also VR headsets use the same optimization levels as consoles to get the best views.

3.For what different job roles do these skills prepare you? What are the pros and cons of these job roles?

There are many job roles these skills prepare you for even ones not to do with media. Some of these job roles are; concept art, Games development, 3D modeling, programming. Architecture,  radio, Film.

4.How did you ensure that you completed your work and met your deadlines?

I learnt how to get all my work completed by the deadlines by starting out planning and organizing then I created evidence sheets in order to make sure that everything was there. I also went out of my way to create a checklist to make sure that everything was complete.

5.How did you take to ensure safe working practices when creating your gallery?

When looking at health and safety factors I made sure that I didn’t drink or eat food by the computers. I also made sure that I had a break when I needed to making sure that I drank and ate food.

6.How did you use audio and visual language to create a particular meaning in your virtual gallery? How does this compare with examples from the industry?

I used audio and visual language to create meaning by changing certain factors of them such for the audio in my gallery I made ambiance sound and I made sure that it wasn’t to loud because in galleries you cant be to loud. I then changed the factors of the visual language in the gallery by adding color, shape and texture.

This looks similar and sounds similar to other industries because they use the same sort of effects as us.

7.How did each of these elements help to achieve this mood?

For the gallery and foliage room i manged to achieve a calm settling mood by using quiet ambiance sound and having bright colors and smooth textures.

8.How could you alter these elements to change the meaning of the virtual experience for users?

I could alter these by making the lights dimmer and flickering and adding in loud noises in order to get a nerve-racking effects.

9.What research tools, methods and skills did you use in preparing your virtual gallery?

The research tools that I used in order to prepare my virtual gallery was the internet. the methods I used were taking notes so that I could remember how to create a certain object or add in a certain sound.

some of the skills I learnt were primary and secondary researching and also I learnt about quantitative and qualitative.

10.How did you use this research in your production and how useful were your sources in helping you to complete your project?

I used my research in order to plan out and then create what I was aiming for. I found that my research was very useful especially during creating foliage. This was because I learnt how to create a tree in my head before tackling it head on without any knowledge of it.

11.Evaluation: How would you improve your research methods and preparation in the future?

I think that when I was looking at primary research it really helped me so if I was to do it again I would make sure that I had more primary research. I would also look at more resources that I could use other than just the internet such as books and leaflets.

Overall I think that my gallery turned out good because it was my first ever try creating a realistic virtual environment.

Unit 3 Road to my personal career

For this unit I am going to be writing a report on the Job role of my choice which is going to be a concept artist because that is the Job role that I would like to do in the future.

Concept artist

This Job role consists of drawing sceneries that some wants to create. The concept artist help visualize what the and result will hopefully end up looking like.

Universities

When looking at how to be a concept artist you think of what route in education you need to go down. To do a creative media course The university of creative arts would be a good place to go. Mainly because they teach you about lots of different forms of media.

Grades

Some of the grade you will need are the grades such as art and design because in art and design you learn to draw and that is a key skill in being a concept artist. Also if you have graphic design it would help you a lot because it shows you know how to use software.

Overall from researching the job role of the concept artist I have learnt how if you take certain paths in education you can get into the job more easily.

3.2 working in a team

When working in a team we have to behave professionally. This is because if you mess around you may not get all of the work done. Also when being consistent you need to make sure that you do the work you have been asked because you could let down your team.

When looking into my past experiences of working in a team my worst experience would have probably been when we was looking into target audiences. This is because not all of us could come up with good ideas so then only one person really contributed. This led to only one idea which I think wasn’t as creative as it could have been. Also when looking at how I was going to campaign we basically just done that on our own.

One good experience is when we are in the classroom I can just ask a friend for help and advice and they would provide me with it. I found this was a good experience because I also helped them and we was progressing through team work

Week 2- Unit 1 Kitchen appliance

Today I have learnt how to create and texture a simple Kitchen appliance. The reason I have done this is because I can then understand the process of creating 3D objects

The kitchen appliance I decided to craete is a washing machine becuase I felt like it was a interesting appliance to create because of some of the details on it.

wash%20fin

To craete this 3D model I had to first of bring out a box from the standard primitives list. Then after I done that I went to unwarp UVW so that I could apply the texture to it, I then went to flattern mapping so that I make the texture into a template style where I could apply textures easily. after that I then went to render UVW and I change the resolution to 2048 so that the texture would look better in 3Dsmax. I then clicked render UVW in order to create the template.

Washing machine fin 2

After that I then added the texture in photoshop. I got the textures from google images by searching “washing machine front view and back” then I applied the texture in 3Dsmax

Overall I didnt have many problmes craeting this appliance. The only problem I had was trying to get the green part on the top of the washing machine to go away which you can see in the first image. Apart from that everything went good.

Week 7- Unit 3 Road to my personal media career

I watched a video that introduced me to Fulltime permanent and freelance contracts. The video gave us a view on how contracts are really important if you are working with a company you have never worked with before. The video that I watched was called “Mike Monteiro- Fuck you pay me”. I enjoyed this video because he spoke from past experiences where he was taken advantage of because of he wasn’t up to date on contracts.

Contacts are important because they give “Clear definitions, clear expectations” of what you don’t want to happen to you and if they did happen to you what would happen to the other party. When this is clearly shown its is harder for you to get taken advantage of because you are “protected”.

Some of the things that I learnt about contracts are is that “contracts protect both parties” meaning that When you come to a agree meant not only you may be protected by so can the opposing party because then if you try to prosecute them and they are protected it may not be eligible to do so.

Another important point that I learnt about contracts is “don’t start work without a contract” meaning that if you start work with no apparent contract they could get you to do all of their work and then don’t pay you and take advantage of you. If you did have a contract you would be less likely to have them take advantage of you, the reason they say to get a contract before you start the work is because it can be harder to create a contract half way through working with the other party.

The third important point to follow when talking about contracts is that you “Don’t blindly accept their conditions” This is important because you will not know what will come next after you accept them. One of the point mike also gave me is that when you are talking to the other party and they try to get you to speak to their lawyer on the phone you should hang up or arrange the call for another day when your lawyer will be with you because they could read the conditions to you and you may just accept them when you shouldn’t.

The fourth important point is “Anticipate negotiation, but don’t back down on important stuff” Mike says this because you they may try to negotiate with you in order to get the rates that they pay you down to a lower rate but you shouldn’t let them push you so far back that you are losing out on important money that provides for you.

The fifth point is “lawyers to lawyers” this is because they know what they are doing so that they keep you protected where as if you on your own spoke to their lawyer they could speak about stuff that you make not understand.

If you look at the brief overview of contracts and then look a permanent work you can see why contracts are important because you could have a job where you only get paid yearly or monthly and at the end of that year you could find out that you haven’t been paid the rate that you should have been.

When looking at a freelancer’s work you can see that it is important because if they say something to you like they don’t need your work anymore or they brought in somebody else then you could lose all the money they said that you was guaranteed just because there was no assigned contract.

Overall when comparing the to jobs you can see that they are both equally important to have a contract with because otherwise you could lose out on a payment or a certain amount of money which could even put you out of your career.

Week 2- Unit 2 Still Life Box forms

Today I was asked to create a various range of amount of drawings of still life box forms with lots of different materials such as pencil, charcoal and chalk.

I first started out by doing a perspective drawing in  pencil where I looked closely at a range of Boxes that were placed in front of me. I think that my drawing turned out good because I got all of the forms into my drawing which is important because it gives of the shape of the of a box and also I added in texture and depth so that it made the image look a bit more realistic.

After I then done a charcoal so that I could see how different it is to construct a still image of a box drawing on paper with a different material. I found it really difficult because I wasn’t used to drawing with charcoal because I didn’t have much experience with it but in the end I found out that if you smudge the charcoal you could give the still life image drawing a more realistic effect making it look better.

Then I done a final drawing of the outline of the boxes with chalk because I was experimenting to see it was any easier to create a image when only doing the outline at first then slowly building up the shapes. I found that it helps a small bit but in certain areas where the shapes were difficult to draw it didn’t really make a impact on my shape.

Overall I found that charcoal and pencil worked really well when trying to get texture into the drawing and that chalk helped when creating the shape and form of the images.

Week 1- What is sound?

I am going to be talking about how sound can be used in various different sectors of media and how its effective and what it does.

The first form of media I am going to talk about is film because I think it really immerged you into whatever film you ever watched and this interested me because I wanted to know what makes up the most of a film is it the video or the sound and a lot Continue reading “Week 1- What is sound?”

Week 6-7 Unit 1 creation of walkie talkie

For the sound of the voice I am going to be looking at how I can tell story through narrative in order to convey a story using a hard surface object such as a walkie talkie to do the vocals on.

To create the walkie talkie in 3ds max I first of all started of by getting a reference image and putting it onto a plane so that I knew what size my walkie talkie was going to be. I then create a box and modelled it to how it looks in the image by using edit poly then edges and connect the lines so that I could bring out more of a surface. I then added the buttons by following a similar process. Then I added the clip at  the back on by just using a rectangle flat primitive and connecting the edges so that I could bend and manipulate the desired sections.

When looking at hard surface models the are mostly objects that help to convey a story through it. If you To do the do the vocals for the  object I used my phone then recorder my voice. I then had to convert my recordings to a wav file. After I done that I then put them into audacity and edited it to how I needed to them to sound. I then put them into unreal by using a trigger box and adding sound so that when you press E my vocals come through.

Overall I think that the process went really well because I didn’t have many problems. I also think this process helped a lot because now I can add in vocals and sounds more easier. In the games industry this would be a vital step for sound artist’s. When doing the modelling I found that difficult at first because I had to get everything precise but in the end I got there.

Week 6-7 Unit 1 The medium is the message

Today we was asked to create a object that narrates a story, something that would do that would be a radio, phone or even a Walkie Talkie.

One game that uses A phone very well to convey story is GTA V because that’s how some of the missions start out and end by being on the phone.

Here is a video Of some post- side missions are only accessible through contact on the mobile phone.

This is the phone that one of the characters from GTA V use.

TelefonoBittersweetFranklinV.jpg

In order to create 3D model I Start of by getting a template of my image of a walkie talkie onto 3Dsmax because then I can be more accurate when I comes to making small changes to my 3D model. Then I create a rectangle at the same size as the walkie talkie, I then start of by shaping the body of the walkie talkie and I done this by editing the vertexes and then making them the shape that I need in order to make it look more like the main base of the walkie talkie. I then added the dials and the antenna on the top to the walkie talkie. And then finally I added the buttons to it making it more realistic.
